Lichens are unusual creatures. A lichen is not a single organism the way most other living things are, but rather it is a combination of two organisms which live together intimately. Most of the lichen is composed of fungal filaments, but living among the filaments are algal cells, usually from a green alga or a cyanobacterium.

The Laboratory is a creative outlet for the digital age. It's content resides at the nexus of music, art, photography, and fun. We are experimental and theoretical pushing the dimensions of what is considered rural.

We are not performance-based, results-driven, or funded by the Department of Defense. The Laboratory is an experiment of world-wide proportions with a rural bent. Quincy, CA is our home base, but don't let that fool you.
